FOOTBALL

Sports at university in the USA is a gateway to competing at the professional level. The college/university system in the USA is split into three different sporting associations: NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA.

Division I
There are 350 schools in Division I
Division I is generally known for having the highest level of competition and the best athletes in all the NCAA divisions.
Usually, Division I schools have the biggest student bodies, the largest athletic department budgets, and the most athletic scholarships for their student-athletes.

Division II
There are 310 schools in Division II
The NCAA’s smaller schools are grouped together in Division II and offer an alternative to the larger schools of Division I. Because of their similar nature in size and funding the level of competition is extremely high.

Division III
There are 438 schools in Division III:
Division III schools do not award sports scholarships, however, the do offer academic scholarships to student athletes.

“Nearly half a million college athletes make up the 19,886 teams that send more than 57,661 participants to compete each year in the NCAA’s 90 championships in 24 sports across 3 division.”  ( (NCAA 2023)

The NCAA is broken down into three divisions: Division I, II and III.

The NAIA focuses on
small private colleges
and small public colleges. NAIA
awards over $800 million in athletic scholarships to student-athletes each year.

There are around 250 private, smaller schools, with more than 60,000 student-athletes competing within NAIA schools. Top-level NAIA schools compete at the same level as an NCAA DII team in terms of competition level. If you want to play sports and have a chance to do well in college academically, the NAIA may be your choice.

A tennis scholarship in the United States is a fantastic opportunity to take your game to the next level. Reaching the top in tennis requires a lot of hard work, determination and persistence.

However, it is an expensive process because it requires a lot of funding to travel and compete at tournaments around the world as well as getting coached by the best. Without a sponsor it can be extremely difficult to break onto the scene.

The American college tennis system allows you to travel around the country competing against the best ranked players while achieving a great education at the same time.

National Junior College
Athletic Association, has
around 60,000 student-athletes participating in 28 different sports at over 500 schools nationwide every year.

NJCAA or JUCO schools as they are known as are one of the best paths to getting into a four-year college for some athletes. JUCOs are two-year colleges which focus on the basic classes needed to graduate. Tuition at JUCOs is very cheap compared to NCAA and NAIA schools and college coaches like to recruit JUCO athletes because they know these athletes have a track record of balancing college academics and athletics while maintaining their eligibility.
